"The American Life" Ira Glass

I thought that this video was helpful information to writers out there who are going through a tough time and want to give up. Ira pretty much put it out there that you should be hard on yourself and your work but to also not give up and be a quitter. I loved his statement which doesn't pertain to just what he was speaking about but to life and goals in general. He said "failure is a big part of success." Just that statement alone relates to my nemesis "food" because I want to give up on myself and feel that its just impossible or its never going to happen. Do not be defeated by your nemesis and just quit. The only person that should be sitting on the pedestal should be yourself!

Open Mic

I want to start off by saying, it was definitely not as nerve racking as I had expected it to be. I really enjoyed hearing some of my peers work regardless of if it was their own or a piece written by someone else that had meaning to them. In the future, I would love to see more people attend an open mic. I think the setting plays a very big role. If it were in an auditorium with a big stage and no lights it would give a deeper meaning to the point that is trying to get across from the speaker. Also, there would be far less distractions than there was in the university center. Although it was cool that random people sat in to watch, there was too much going on. I really enjoyed this and would like to do it again!

Response to Klosterman's book

I personally did not like this particular book. I feel that the author lost me many times with comparing music and musicians that were around before my time, or that I was simply unfamiliar to. This interupted the flow of reading for me. At the same time, I think the author did a spectacular job with elaborating on certain things to get the reader thinking, picturing what he was or feeling what he was feeling at that certain point of the story. It really depends on wether or not I would suggest this book to any one else. I personally did not enjoy it.

Post Secret

Although none of the posts I read related directly to me I was able to picture myself in some of the senarios. It was nice that some of the posts had a sense of realness to them while others were humorous. This may work to help people vent or relay their thoughts and feelings. I really enjoyed this and will continue to view it. Who knows- maybe I will add a post! :)
The post were also structured like some of the poems we have learned about in class, it was pretty neat linking them together.

Guilt (Elegy Poem)

This is right, that is wrong
How will I decipher what I will prolong?
To ridden all your sins you must repent
Sometimes all my thoughts and feelings I must vent
If the facts are there I need to care
For the fear of death I do not dare

I have these visions or are they dreams
The bugs of death crawl through my seams
I will try running but it will follow
For the escape of fatality I will have to swallow

Bluebottle by Judith Nicholls

I chose this poem because I liked how the poet  incorporated more than one event.  When I read it I thought that the poet was talking about  a skydiver, an airplane and a comet.  All three were in the sky, they all had some sort of wings and they soared through the sky very fast.

Haiku

The icey patches
Undetectable sliding
Cars smacking the walls.

"The Gullible Little Red Riding Hood"

“How could this have happened?” asked the mother, to what’s left of her family outside overlooking the graves of not only her daughter, Red Riding Hood but also the grandmother.  “I asked her to go straight to her grandmother’s house to drop off some cake, I never imagined it would come to this” as she sat there at the funeral  the rain pouring over her entire body it was so cold you could see the air come out of her mouth every time she would take a breathe.  “I should’ve known better, I will never forgive myself!”

What led to this moment, how did this all happen with just a harmless ride to her grandmother’s house to check up on her and bring her some cake?

Once upon a time in a far away land there lived a beautiful little girl in a small village with her family.  Her mother adored her so much she even handmade her daughter this gorgeous red velvet hooded cape for her to wear.  “Hear my love, I have made this by hand for you and want you to always think of me every time you put this on.”  “Oh wow mother!  It is beautiful and I will always think of you!”  shouted the daughter.  She would wear it all the time so everyone decided to call her “Little Red Riding Hood.”   One day the mother was baking a cake in the kitchen and hollered out to little red riding hood.  “Little Red Riding Hood!” shouted the mother, “please come and take some cake to grandma’s house.  Maybe this will help get her in a better mood.”    She has been feeling under the weather lately and the smell and warm taste might help make her feel better.  Oh I hope this cake will do the trick mother, I haven’t seen grandma in a while now and I am starting to really miss her like I miss my friends on school break.
So off went Little Red Riding in the woods through the village to go visit her grandmother in hopes that the cake will make her feel better.  As she skipped through the woods she was approached by a bear.  “Well hello there my dear lady, what’s your name?” asked the bear.  Hello, I…I….hesitant to answer the bear since he was a stranger and she had never met him before.  She spoke in a very faint tone “I go by the name of little red riding hood.”   “Don’t be afraid my dear, I won’t hurt you I am just very lonely out here in the woods and I have no friends.  I seen you and wanted to say hello” said the bear.  After hearing the sad story the bear told her about why he is so lonely little red riding hood felt bad and asked him If he would like to walk with her the rest of the way to her grandmother’s house.  Of course! shouted the bear.  I would love to go with you and have you and your grandmother for supper!  Ah hum…..I mean I would love to visit your grandmother’s house with my new friend.  The bear’s intentions were on eating the grandmother and little red riding hood as fast as he can for he hasn’t ea ten in 4 days.
The bear couldn’t take the thought of having to wait any longer and tricked little red riding hood to turn around and GULP!  One bite she was all gone!!!! He had her for supper and was still hungry.  She had previously told him where her grandmother’s house was so he threw on her cape and went to eat the grandmother too.  When he finally reached the house he knocked on the door and acted like he was little red riding hood and disguised his voice.  “Knock knock” it’s me grandmother I have come to visit and bring you some warm cake to eat” said the bear in a high pitched voice.   The grandmother responded, “the door is open honey come into my room for I am laying in bed.”   The bear was so excited he had drool coming out of both sides of his mouth.  Wow honey you sure do look different said the grandmother to the bear.  Oh it’s this beautiful red coat I have on replied the bear.  Wow what big hands you have dear, said the grandmother.  Oh it’s um…it’s um… I have grown since the last time you seen me responded the bear.  Wow what big teeth you have dear, said the grandmother.  “My teeth are to GULP!  This was the best supper I have had in a while!” exclaimed the bear.  Now I could go to sleep and wait for my next dish when I awake.   Hahahahaha hahahaha, laughed the bear.

Where I'm at now

I guess you could say I live life in the fast lane. I am a mother,wife,student,employee,daughter,daughter-in-law and sister. I currently work full time and go to school as well as take care of both my parents whom aren't in the best medical condition. I also am in the process of looking for a new house to live in by March. Whew......overwhelmed is an understatement with where I'm at right now.

The Princess and the Frog

Once upon a time in a far away castle I was a valet for the charming Prince Naveen.  One day Prince Naveen decided it was time for him to find a lady that would make him happy and raise a family.  So we both went to Oklahoma City to find this special lady.  Prince Naveen’s parents were not happy with his decision and the Prince went against their wishes by leaving the Castle.

The Prince did not want anyone to know that we were from Royalty.  This lady that would be found would love the Prince for what’s inside and not the material things that would be simple to provide.  One day we were walking through a park in the city and I went to go view the fountain while the Prince sat on a stool and waited for my arrival back.  During my absense there came a lady by the name of Tiana that sat next to the Prince.  The Prince was impressed by her beauty but what the Prince didn’t know was Tiana was looking for a man to sweep her off her feet.  Tiana did not want just any man that was so blinded by her beauty  and only wanted her for her beauty.  Tiana thought if she could get the Prince to kiss her and get to know her he would love her for who she really is.  Alaa kazam!  Tiana became a frog and so did the Prince.  The Prince had been kissed by Tiana and this is what has become of him.  I could not believe my eyes.  How was I going to explain this to Prince Naveen’s family and have them believe me.

Tiana told us the only way the Prince and herself could become humans again was after both have found true love.   Now the Prince will never find someone no one was going to be interested in a frog.  After searching and searching one their own for true love it was realized by Tiana and Naveen that true love must come from within and it wasn’t there when both first started looking.  As they gazed into each others eyes unconsiously getting closer and closer, their eyes closed,Tiana and Naveens lips locked.  When their eyes were opened both Naveen and Tiana were human again and in love with each other.  I was so happy I called his family and told them all about this experience and that it was time to celebrate with family.  The both of them wed and everyone lived happily ever after.
