"The American Life" Ira Glass

I thought that this video was helpful information to writers out there who are going through a tough time and want to give up. Ira pretty much put it out there that you should be hard on yourself and your work but to also not give up and be a quitter. I loved his statement which doesn't pertain to just what he was speaking about but to life and goals in general. He said "failure is a big part of success." Just that statement alone relates to my nemesis "food" because I want to give up on myself and feel that its just impossible or its never going to happen. Do not be defeated by your nemesis and just quit. The only person that should be sitting on the pedestal should be yourself!

Open Mic

I want to start off by saying, it was definitely not as nerve racking as I had expected it to be. I really enjoyed hearing some of my peers work regardless of if it was their own or a piece written by someone else that had meaning to them. In the future, I would love to see more people attend an open mic. I think the setting plays a very big role. If it were in an auditorium with a big stage and no lights it would give a deeper meaning to the point that is trying to get across from the speaker. Also, there would be far less distractions than there was in the university center. Although it was cool that random people sat in to watch, there was too much going on. I really enjoyed this and would like to do it again!

Response to Klosterman's book

I personally did not like this particular book. I feel that the author lost me many times with comparing music and musicians that were around before my time, or that I was simply unfamiliar to. This interupted the flow of reading for me. At the same time, I think the author did a spectacular job with elaborating on certain things to get the reader thinking, picturing what he was or feeling what he was feeling at that certain point of the story. It really depends on wether or not I would suggest this book to any one else. I personally did not enjoy it.

Post Secret

Although none of the posts I read related directly to me I was able to picture myself in some of the senarios. It was nice that some of the posts had a sense of realness to them while others were humorous. This may work to help people vent or relay their thoughts and feelings. I really enjoyed this and will continue to view it. Who knows- maybe I will add a post! :)
The post were also structured like some of the poems we have learned about in class, it was pretty neat linking them together.

Guilt (Elegy Poem)

This is right, that is wrong
How will I decipher what I will prolong?
To ridden all your sins you must repent
Sometimes all my thoughts and feelings I must vent
If the facts are there I need to care
For the fear of death I do not dare

I have these visions or are they dreams
The bugs of death crawl through my seams
I will try running but it will follow
For the escape of fatality I will have to swallow

Bluebottle by Judith Nicholls

I chose this poem because I liked how the poet  incorporated more than one event.  When I read it I thought that the poet was talking about  a skydiver, an airplane and a comet.  All three were in the sky, they all had some sort of wings and they soared through the sky very fast.

Haiku

The icey patches
Undetectable sliding
Cars smacking the walls.
